School flooded by heavy rain in Nebraska Panhandle

Heavy rain in the Nebraska Panhandle over the weekend closed some roads and flooded a school. Up to 9 inches of rain fell in the Gering area, according to the National Weather Service office in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Overall, the Panhandle received 2 to 5 inches, according to the weather service. The rain fell Friday night into Saturday. The boiler room in Gering High School flooded with as much as 6 feet of water when heavy rain flowed into the school through utility tunnels created for renovation of the building, according to radio station KNEB.
Between 125,000 and 150,000 gallons of water were pumped out of the boiler room, the radio station reported.
