Scammers target Nebraska DMV customers

LINCOLN, Neb. — Scammers are targeting Nebraskans, pretending to be from the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles.

The DMV is aware of illegitimate text messages.

They are not sent by the Nebraska DMV and are often from unfamiliar phone numbers claiming the recipient either owes, or is owed, a large sum of money.

Officials say that anyone receiving a link should not click on it. They say you should delete the message as soon as possible.

The Nebraska DMV only sends text messages to customers under certain circumstances and only if the recipient voluntarily opts in.
