NORTH PLATTE – A private charter jet from Santa Barbara en route to Chicago made an emergency landing at the North Platte Airport Tuesday evening.

The Gulfstream G-IV N492VR landed at 6:50 p.m. after passengers reported smelling smoke at the back of the aircraft.

Local law enforcement agencies, including the North Platte Fire Department responded.

The jet landed safely with all seven passengers, including the two pilots and a flight attendant on board.

The North Platte Airport Authority inspected the plane.

As of this evening, the authority doesn’t know the exact cause, but they believe it could have been a wiring issue, rather than an engine problem.

The passengers were picked up by another charter jet.
