Norfolk man facing multiple charges after crashing, fleeing on foot

NORFOLK – A Norfolk man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he fled from a car accident north of Norfolk.

The Nebraska State Patrol says the crash happened around 2 p.m. Friday at the intersection of N. 1st Street and NE Industrial Highway.

The State Patrol says the driver, 27-year-old Landon Batenhorst, swerved to avoid a semi-trailer and crashed through a fence.

Authorities say after the crash, Batenhorst then fled the scene on foot.

Batenhorst was medically cleared by Norfolk Fire and Rescue before being charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving under the influence and driving under suspension. The Nebraska State Patrol said Batenhorst was driving a stolen vehicle.

NSP troopers were assisted by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the Stanton County Sheriff’s Office.
