New principal in Grand Island

A Grand Island school is welcoming a new principal.

Opal Bentley will become the new leader at Knickrehm Elementary School in August.

“I am just so humbled,” she said.

She comes from a background working with the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), (a system of offering more academic and emotional help to students) which she hopes to expand upon at GIPS.

“MTTS does have a real impact on kids,” she said.

Bentley has been with GIPS since January, most recently working as a student success liason at Starr Elementary School.

Bentley will be taking over the position vacated by Rob Bishop, who is taking on a new role.
