Lincoln names fire chief, continues search for police chief

LINCOLN — Dave Engler was named the new chief of Lincoln Fire and Rescue by Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird.

“Dave has demonstrated great leadership as the acting chief during the past four months,” Gaylor Baird said.

The 24-year firefighting veteran started as a paramedic in 1996. He studied public administration and dispute resolution.

“I’m truly honored for this nomination to lead,” Engler said.

At the same time, Lincoln is looking to hire a new police chief.

Baird said the city did a survey and interviewed residents to find what traits the city needs and wants. Those include diversity, equity, and unwavering dedication to transparency.
