Lincoln man killed in one-vehicle crash

A 37-year-old man died when his SUV hit a tree in northwest Lincoln, police said Monday.

Andrew W. O’Brien of Lincoln was pronounced dead Saturday night at Bryan West Medical Center, according to a report from the Lincoln Police Department.

A witness told police that O’Brien was driving a 2005 Honda Pilot at a high rate of speed when it went through the intersection at West Fletcher and Purple Heart Highway.  The SUV went over a curb and through a field before slamming into a tree, police said.

O’Brien was less than a mile from his home when the crash occurred just before 7 p.m. He was not wearing a seat belt, police said.
