Lincoln man arrested in connection with crash that killed 8-year-old

A 22-year-old Lincoln man has been arrested in connection with a crash that killed an 8-year-old boy.
Police said Brandon Valentine was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of manslaughter. Around 6:35 a.m. March 16, Lincoln police responded to a two-vehicle crash at North Cotner Boulevard and Garland Street. After the crash, the boy, Camden King, was trapped in a Volkswagen Golf.
The Volkswagen, driven by Jesse King, 36, was westbound on Garland and had stopped for the stop sign at North Cotner, police said. The Volkswagen pulled into the intersection and was struck by a northbound Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Valentine. The pickup did not have a stop sign, police said. Investigators said they found that Valentine was traveling 85 mph just seconds before the crash and 67 mph when the vehicles collided.
Jesse King was ejected from the Golf, police said. Camden King was freed from the Volkswagen and taken to a Lincoln hospital suffering from life-threatening injuries, police said.
The third-grader at Randolph Elementary School later died at the hospital.
