A Gothenburg, Nebraska, police officer and her husband died this weekend in an apparent murder-suicide, according to Dawson County Attorney Elizabeth F. Warren.
Officer Jill McCandless, 53, and her husband, Jeff, 52, were found dead in their home Saturday evening by a relative, Warren said in a statement.
Autopsies have been scheduled, and the investigation is ongoing.
Jill McCandless had served on the Gothenburg Police Department since 2010, becoming the third woman on the force, according to a story posted by The Gothenburg Leader.
The Nebraska State Patrol is in charge of the investigation and the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office and Gothenburg Police Department assisted at the scene.
