WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden announced additional disaster assistance being made available to Nebraska this week. The authorization included an increase in the level of federal funding for public assistance projects as a result of a severe winter storm, straight-line winds and flooding during a four-month period in 2019.
Under the initial major disaster declaration issued for Nebraska in 2019, federal funding was made available for public assistance, hazard mitigation and other assistance at 75% of the total eligible costs.
Under Biden’s order Thursday, the federal share for public assistance was increased to 90% of total eligible costs.
The news comes in the same week that Biden announced FEMA would double money for extreme weather preparedness as the country moves into tornado and hurricane seasons.
