Clean Harbors receives Emergency Resource Conservation and Recovery Act permit

KIMBALL, NE — A hazardous waste storage and treatment facility near Kimball has received a special permit from the state.

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE) issued an Emergency Resource Conservation and Recovery Act permit for the temporary storage of hazardous waste to Clean Harbors Environmental Services, Inc.

The NDEE says it issued the permit due to critical equipment and logistics issues along with an unexpected large increase of waste coming into the system market place. This increase has stressed the facility’s permitted container storage area capacity.

The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act’s purpose is to ensure proper management of hazardous wastes from the point of generation until final disposal.

According to the NDEE, Clean Harbors Environmental Services is the only operating hazardous waste storage and treatment facility in Nebraska. There are two other facilities in the state that store hazardous waste but do not treat it.
