Janice Louise Switzer age 75, of Anselmo, NE passed away Tuesday, October 09, 2018, at the Broken Bow Care and Rehabilitation Center in Broken Bow, NE.
Memorial services for Janice will be Saturday, October 13, 2018, at 10:30 AM at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow, NE, with Pastor Kathy Salts PMA officiating. Visitation will be Friday, October 12, 2018, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM at the Govier Brothers Mortuary. Burial will be in the New Helena Cemetery in Anselmo, NE. Memorials may be given to the Asera Care Hospice or the Broken Bow Care & Rehabilitation Center. Govier Brothers Mortuary are in charge of arrangements. Janice was born, in Mason City, NE to Leslie and Hazel (Hendrickson) McAlevy. She attended school in Mason City.
She married Herbert Switzer on September 8, 1962, to this union three children were born, Jim, Don, and Barb. The family lived on the farm near Victoria Springs.
Janice worked at the Halsey Forest for several years. After that, she was employed at the grocery store in Anselmo. She later went to work at Victoria Springs State Park where she cleaned cabins and worked in the office. In 1992, she went to work at Sandhills Manor in Laundry and Housekeeping. She later became a CNA. In late 1998, she retired from working and went to staying at home and working on the farm.
Janice enjoyed her cats, watching birds, flower gardening, working puzzles, spending time with family and friends.
Janice remained on the farm until July 2016, when due to health problems moved to Broken Bow Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Janice is survived by sons Jim Switzer of Anselmo, NE, Don (Sara) Switzer of Ansley, NE, daughter Barb (Scott) Williams of Ansley, NE, five grandchildren, Nicole, David, Matt, McKayla and Annie, four great-grandchildren, Clayton, Kasey, Nichols, and Jaxson, two sisters, Hazel Elizabeth Fisher of Wood River, NE and Judy Warden of Loveland, CO, five sisters-in-law, Jeanne (Bob) Young of Broken Bow, NE, Rosemary Switzer of Texas, Neola McAlevy of Ansley, NE, Cloetta McAlevy of Holstein, NE, and Maxine McAlevy of CO. Many nieces, nephews, also survived by special friend Julie Olson of Hastings, NE.
Janice is proceeded in death by husband Herbert, parents Leslie and Hazel, granddaughter, Jessica, eight brothers Dennis, Dale, Gerald, Russell, Roger, Glenn, David, and Loren, three sisters Nancy, Barb, and Sharon.
