Funeral Services for Gene Wood, age 68

Gene Kenneth Wood age 68 of Mason City, NE passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at his home in Mason City, NE.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow, NE with Pastor Doug Deneui officiating. Burial will be in the Mason City Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to the Family. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 8, 2021 from 12:00 to 7:00 pm at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow. Govier Brothers Mortuary are in charge of arrangements. An online guest book may be signed at www.govierbrothers.com for words of encouragement or remembrance. Govier Brothers Mortuary will comply with the CDC and State of Nebraska.

Gene was born February 14, 1952 in Kearney, NE to Kenneth and Lois (Beman) Wood. He graduated from Ord High School in 1971. Gene was drafted in August 1972 and served during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Alaska and was a fire fighter for the Army until August 1974. After returning home Gene served 4 years in the reserves and continued his education.

He had a mechanics shop in Berwyn, drove truck, and lastly had a heating and air business until he no longer was able to work due to his health.

Gene was always there to help anyone in need and was a jack of all trades. He enjoyed learning and loved to try and figure things out. He never met a stranger, loved to visit with people, and telling stories to his family. He was also interested in the family genealogy. Gene was a member of the American Legion and served on the Village Board in Mason City.

Gene is survived by children Tina Camberos of Ohio, Tawnia Krause of Kearney, NE, Tara Spiehs of Indiana, Travis Wood of South Carolina, and Megan Wood of Kentucky, 11 grandchildren, brothers and sisters Barbara (Gary) Petska of Omaha, Lonnie (Betty) Wood of Ericson, Doyle (Londa) of Berwyn, Shirley “Charlie” (Gary) Trojan of Burwell, and many nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Lois (Beman) Wood.
