Funeral Services for Doris Garrett, age 89
November 2, 1931 - January 7, 2021

Doris (Christensen) Garrett, 89, of Broken Bow, formerly of Central City, Nebraska, died Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Brookstone View in Broken Bow.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 11 a.m. in the Central City Cemetery with John Meschke officiating.  Visitation will be Tuesday, January 12, 2021 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City.  Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Central City Public Library or the Nebraska Sheriff’s Association (Merrick).  Condolences can be sent to the family at www.soltwagnerfuneral.com.

Doris was born November 2, 1931 to Herluf and Astrid (Feddersen) Christensen in rural Platte County Nebraska. In 1947 the family moved to Central City, NE where Doris graduated from High School in 1949. She obtained her teaching certificate at Nebraska Central College in 1950. Doris taught at District 13 in rural Merrick County until her marriage to Wesley Garrett on June 3, 1951. Doris and Wesley owned and operated a dairy farm north of Central City until moving to St Marys, KS in 1975. While there she worked for a bakery and enjoyed the community ladies’ Bible Study. In 1979, the family moved back to Central City where Doris was a dispatcher for the Merrick Sheriff’s Office from 1980 until her retirement in 1993. In 2009, Doris moved to Broken Bow, NE where she lived until her passing.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, James Garrett, Lincoln, NE, Louise (Mark) Gray, Wayne, PA, Dorothy Condreay, Lincoln, NE, Shirley Garrett, Portland, OR, Roberta “Bert” (John) Meschke, Broken Bow, NE, Donald (Jackie) Garrett, Des Moines, IA, Wayne (Kimberly) Garrett, Phillips, NE; fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; her sisters, Althea Templeton, Richmond, MO and Teona (Roger) Dey, Gresham, NE. She also leaves many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Verna Davis; brother and sister-in-law, Rodney and Betty (Hood) Christensen; brother-in-law, Eddy Templeton; son-in-law, Blain Condreay; in-laws, Walter and Frankie (Good) Garrett; as well as Wesley’s siblings, Warren Garrett, Virginia Stalker, Muriel Schroyer, Helen Hoffman, Mark Garrett, Mary Fritz, and David Garrett.
