Dave Davis, age 85 of Lincoln, NE formerly of Broken Bow passed away May 8, 2022, at his home Windcrest Assisted Living Care in Lincoln, NE.
Memorial services will be Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 10:00 am at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Broken Bow, NE with Pastor Beckmann officiating. Inurnment will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Dave A Davis name, to the Custer County Foundation. Govier Brothers Mortuary are in charge of arrangements. An online guest book may be signed at govierbrothers.com. A visitation and time to greet the family will be held on Wednesday evening 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM at Govier Brothers Mortuary.
Elbert Alonzo Davis, known as Dave A. Davis, was born November 8, 1936, in Loup City, NE to Elbert Diah and Thelma A (Moody) Davis. Thelma and son Larry Owen, both passed during childbirth in August of 1938. Elbert remarried Helen Elizabeth (Landis) on January 4, 1940. Born to their union was Ann Elizabeth Davis on August 18, 1941.
Dave graduated from Broken Bow High, then went onto Hastings College, and Auctioneer School in Toronto. Dave was united in marriage to Bonnie Samuelson of Trumbull in June of 1958. To this union two daughters were born, Jill and Abby. In October of 1977, Dave married LaDonna Hoffschneider Schrader. To this marriage, Dave was blessed with children Brenda, Steve, and David.
Dave’s love of sports was developed at an early age. He played football, basketball, and baseball. He was a devoted Husker Fan of all Go Big Red Sports. A big fan of major league baseball, especially the Kansas City Royals. He also had a passion for pro-football and basketball as well. He enjoyed golfing in his earlier years as a participant and enjoyed the major tournaments on television. The common thread to his enjoyment of all the various sports, were the human-interest stories on the athletes, coaches, owners, staff, and families. Dave and LaDonna enjoyed traveling to explore new areas. One area they loved to revisit as much as possible, were the mountains of Colorado. Estes Park and Colorado Springs were two of their favorite spots. He loved to joke around with people and was a known prankster. Some thought he needed more fiber in his diet. He was asked to speak at various local events sharing his journey and testimony of faith with others. Dave could be found auctioneering at local and state charity events to raise money for organizations or individuals. He felt compelled to help others struggling in life, especially those with the disease of addiction. Dave cared for others, enjoyed people, and had a memory bank full of details about his first introductions, where that was, when it took place and the events that followed. Dave would strike up conversations with many strangers only for that first meeting. He loved finding out about the commonalties they might share. He was a great storyteller and the subject of many stories himself. Dave was proud of his hometown and felt honored to be so supported throughout the years by the individuals in the community and those who never gave up on him, his devoted family included. Dave would first give all glory and praise to Our Heavenly Father, then always gave credit to his loyal family and steadfast supporters for staying the course with him throughout his life.
Dave is survived by his loving wife LaDonna of Lincoln, daughters: Jill Forshey of Columbus, OH, Abby Davis of Holdrege, Brenda Schrader of Loveland, CO, sons: Steve (Ann) Schrader of Omaha, and David (Jody) Schrader of Omaha, grandkids: Jessica Meehan (Jeff Mankel) of Birmingham, AL, Janelle Snyder of Omaha, Jonathan (Lindsay) Woodworth of Loveland, CO, Nathan (Michelle) Woodworth of Fort Collins, CO, Zachary (Chantel) Woodworth, of Loveland, CO, Maverick Woodworth of Loveland, CO, Brittni (Rocky) Heckman of Gretna, Kody (Cora) Schrader of Omaha, Casey (Stacy) Schrader of Lincoln, Jennifer (Calvin) Rowe of Omaha, and CJ Hashenberger of Wichita, KS, great grandkids: Isabella and Connor Snyder, Lily Mankel, Karter Schrader, Noah Schrader, Mack Schrader, Jaden Porter, Landen Porter, Aubrey Heckman, Bryson Heckman, Haley Heckman, Miranda Hashenberger, Ayden Woodworth, Connor Woodworth, Zoey Woodworth, Noelle Woodworth, and Hilde Woodworth, sister Ann Davis Holcomb of Broken Bow, brothers-in-law: John (Pat) Hoffschneider of Lincoln, Glen (Sharon) Hoffschneider of Eloy, AZ, and Mark (Mila) Hoffschneider of Scottsdale, Az, sister-in-law Lois Hartman (Larry Voorhees) of Omaha, many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Dave was preceded in death by his father Elbert Diah, mothers Thelma A and Helen Elizabeth, brother Larry Owen, brother-in-law Chuck Holcomb, sons-in-law Bill Woodworth, and Dr. Tony Forshey.
