SWC Wins New West All Star Volleyball Tournament

The 2018 New West All-Star Volleyball Classic, benefitting the Nebraska Kidney Association, took place on Friday June 1st at Minden High School. The first match featured the Lou Platte Conference (which included Kaylea Rasmussen and Kennedy Lewandowski of Arcadia/Loup City) vs. the Southwest Conference. The SWC won in straight sets 25-21, 25-18, 25-15. Broken Bow’s Kirsten Staab helped lead the way with 2 points, 1 block, 4 dumps for kills and 27 assists. Gracie Stieneke of Gothenburg tallied up 5 points, 3 blocks, and 14 kills. Arleigh Costello also of Gothenburg had 8 points, 1 block and 11 kills.

In the other opening round match, the Republican Plains Activity Conference overcame the Fort Kearny Conference in straight sets 25-23, 25-17, 25-21.
The championship match was the best 2 out of 3 sets with the Southwest Conference defeating the Republican Plains Activity Conference in straight sets 25-19, 25-17. Steineke had 13 kills and 2 blocks. Costello had 5 points and 6 kills. Staab of Broken Bow had 10 points and 25 assists.
