The NSAA state football semifinals will take place today in all seven classes. The winners will advance to the state championship of their respective class. The championship games will be played out between November 20th and November 24th. Locally, the highlight game will take place in Dunning where the Sandhills/Thedford Knights will host Falls City Sacred Heart for the right to qualify for the Class D2 championship game. The Knights enter at 11-0 on the season and are the #5 seed while FCSH enters as the top seed and is 9-1 on the season. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 5 p.m. and will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com with pregame coverage beginning around 4:30. The winner will advance to play the winner of today’s BDS / Central Valley game for the Class D2 football championship on November 23rd at Memorial Stadium.
Burwell will look to advance to its third consecutive championship game and its fifth in the last six years as they travel to play Cross County in the Class D1 state semifinals. Both teams enter undefeated at 11-0. The winner will advance to play the winner of Dundy County Stratton / Tri County for the D1 state title on November 23rd.
The Class C1 state semifinals feature two former Broken Bow opponents from this season as Kearney Catholic and St. Paul are both one step away from playing for the state title. Each semifinal will be a rematch from an earlier regular season matchup. St. Paul will face undefeated Pierce. Pierce is the only team to hand St. Paul a loss this season. The two met in the opening week of the season with Pierce coming out on top 55-38. Kearney Catholic will play Adams Central for the second time this season. Kearney Catholic won the regular season battle 33-22. The C1 championship game will be played on November 24th.
Another Broken Bow opponent from this season, Ord, is in the state semifinals in Class C2. The Chanticleers will host Oakland Craig tonight with the winner advancing to the C2 championship game to face the winner of tonight’s Archbishop Bergan / Yutan matchup.
