State Football Playoff Brackets Released

The NSAA has released the state football playoff brackets. Opening round for Classes D1 and D2 is Thursday and opening round for all other classes is Friday.

Arcadia/Loup City is the #3 seed in the west half of the Class D1 bracket. The Rebels have won 7 in a row after dropping their season opener and will host Alma on Thursday. Burwell is the #5 seed in the west half of the bracket and will host Hitchcock County in the opening round. Palmyra, Homer, Nebraska Christian, and Morrill all finished with 38.75 points in the final regular season standings and were the final teams taken into the playoffs. South Loup was the first team out finishing with 38.125 points.

Sandhills/Thedford went through the regular season undefeated and is seeded #3 in the west half of the Class D2 bracket.  The Knights will go up against Mullen in the opening round.  After a slow start the Broncos finished the season at 3-5.  The two met in the regular season with ST pulling away in the second half to win 42-14.  Twin Loup is the 11 seed in the west and wiLL travel to meet 6-2 Axtell in the opening round.  Anselmo-Merna makes the playoffs and is the #15 seed in the west bracket.  The Coyotes will take on 7-1 Kenesaw in the first round.

In Class C1, Cozad makes the playoffs at 5-4. The Haymakers will be on the road against the #3 seed Ashland Greenwood in the first round. It will be a rematch of the regular season finale that decided the C1-7 district title as Gothenburg #5 will host #12 Ord. Gothenburg won the regular season match up in overtime 17-14.

SEM makes the 6 man playoffs.  The Mustangs were the last team in and will travel to play the top seed Cody Kilgore on Friday.  Sandhills Valley (Stapleton/McPherson County) is the 11 seed and will play at Maywood Hayes Center in the opening round.
