South Loup Wins MNAC Volleyball Title

For the first time, South Loup (the sports coop between Arnold and Callaway) claimed the title at the Mid Nebraska Activities Conference volleyball tournament on Saturday at North Platte Community College. The Bobcats were tested in the semifinals by defending tournament champion Mullen. The Lady Broncos came out strong taking set 1 25-18. South Loup fought back to take set 2 25-19 and set 3 25-11. The Lady Bobcats then edged Mullen in the 4th 25-23 to win 3 sets to 1. South Loup’s opponent in the championship match would be Twin Loup. The Lady Wolves outlasted Anselmo-Merna in a thrilling 5 set semifinal. The two teams split the first four sets with Twin Loup winning the first 25-23, AM came back to win the second 25-20, Twin Loup took the third 25-15, but AM would again respond to win the fourth 25-22 to force a fifth and deciding set. In the final set, Twin Loup jumped out early and held on to win 15-9 to take the match 3 sets to 2. In the championship, South Loup won in a competitive 3 set match. South Loup would prevail by scores of 25-18, 25-21, 25-23.

In other action from the tournament Saturday, Mullen defeated Anselmo-Merna in the third place consolation match 3 sets to 1 (25-21, 24-26, 25-23, 25-15)

Brady defeated Cody-Kilgore in the fifth place consolation match 2 sets to none (27-25, 25-23)

Sandhills Valley (Stapleton/McPherson County) defeated Hyannis in the 7th place consolation match 2 sets to none (25-18, 25-15)

7th Place:
