The Sandhills/Thedford Knights cruised to a 57-22 win over Ainsworth in its season opener Friday night in Dunning. The Knights jumped out to a 16-0 lead thanks to TD runs by Cauy Pokorny. S/T would build their lead to 28-6 with 2:33 left in the first half but Ainsworth got to within 28-14 with 1:05 left in the 2nd quarter. The final 65 seconds of the first half is where things really swung in S/T’s favor. On the ensuing kickoff, Trae Hickman returned it 60 yds to put the Knights up 36-14. S/T would get the ball back before the half ended. With 16.3 seconds left in the 2nd quarter Bryan Zutavern connected with Cauy Pokorny on a 12 yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 42-14 at the half. The Knights would score twice more in the 2nd half and collected a 57-22 victory.
