The NSAA state football playoffs take center stage today in high school sports. Classes A, D1, and D2 will move into the second round of competition today.
In Class D2, Sandhills/Thedford will host Loomis in Thedford. Both teams won big in the opening round with the Knights advancing past Axtell 68-22 and Loomis advanced past Leyton 52-16. Tonight’s game will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and on kbbn.com. A special video stream accompanied by the radio call will be made available on the following media platforms – sandhillsexpress.com ; Sandhills Express facebook page ; Twitter ; and You Tube. The kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. Ansley/Litchfield is into the round of 16 after its win last week against Riverside (34-12). The Spartans will host undefeated Bruning Davenport Shickley tonight in Ansley. Tonight’s game will be broadcast on KCNI 1280 AM / 96.3 FM and kcni1280.com with the kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
In Class D1, Arcadia/Loup City is into the round of 16. The Rebels started the season 0-2 with some of their key pieces out due to injury. Now that some of those key pieces have been able to return, ALC has won 6 of their last 7 including an impressive 70-23 win over Amherst in round one last week. Tonight the Rebels host 8-1 Stanton. Burwell is now the #3 seed in the Class D1 bracket. The undefeated Longhorns go on the road today to face 7-2 Howells/Dodge.
Classes B, C1, C2, and D6 begin play in their playoff bracket today. SEM makes the playoffs in six man. The Mustangs will face Paxton in today’s opening round. The two met just last week in the final game of the regular season with the Paxton Tigers edging SEM 30-24. Tonight’s game is scheduled to be played in Paxton.
Gothenburg and Cozad each made the Class C1 playoff field. Gothenburg will play at Lincoln Christian and Cozad will be on the road to face St. Paul.
