NSAA Boys State Basketball Touranment Begins Thursday in Lincoln

The 2018 NSAA Boys Basketball State Championships begin Thursday at various sites in Lincoln. The Broken Bow Indians qualified as a wildcard and are the #3 seed in Class C1 and will open play against the #6 seed Boone Central Newman Grove at 2pm at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The Indians hope that the third time will be the charm as the two have already met twice this season with Boone Central Newman Grove winning each of the two previous meetings. Today’s game will be broadcast live on KCNI 96.3 FM, KCNI 1280 AM, and kcni1280.com with coverage scheduled to begin at 1:30. The other C1 matchups Thursday include Wahoo vs. Ogallala ; Lincoln Christian vs. Grand Island Central Catholic ; and Winnebago vs. Syracuse.

The South Loup Bobcats qualified as a wildcard in Class C2 with a 21-3 overall record and are the #6 seed. South Loup will open play against the #3 seed Hastings St. Cecilia at 2pm at Lincoln Southeast High School. The game will be broadcast live on KBBN 95.3 FM and on kbbn.com with coverage scheduled to begin at 1:30.

Arcadia/Loup City received an automatic bid into the C2 tournament by winning the C2-5 district championship. The Rebels are 22-4 overall and will meet the #2 seed Yutan at 3:45 at Lincoln Southeast High School. The game will be broadcast live on KBBN 95.3 FM and on kbbn.com with coverage beginning at the conclusion of the South Loup broadcast. The other C2 matchups include Ponca vs. Perkins County and Elmwood Murdock vs. BRLD (Bancroft/Rosalie Lyons/Decatur)

Mullen will begin defense of its Class D2 championship it won a year ago when it plays Mead tonight at Lincoln Northeast High School. Mullen is back at the tournament this year after claiming the Class D2-5 district championship. Tonight’s game will be a rematch of last year’s championship game won by Mullen. The game is scheduled to tip off at 8:45 Thursday night and will be broadcast live on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com with coverage beginning around 8:30. The other D2 matchups include Cody-Kilgore vs. Falls City SH ; Giltner vs. Wilcox-Hildreth ; and Riverside vs. Wynot.
