Class A: Millard South earned the wild card, narrowly edging Papillion-La Vista. It is the third straight state appearance for the Patriots, who had a nine-year drought before that. They will meet two-time defending champion Omaha Marian in the quarterfinals, a rematch of a district championship that the Crusaders won 1-0. North Platte joins the fray — the only change in the ratings — after an overtime win in a district-title match.

Class B: The top seven remain unchanged despite plenty of activity. Gretna beat Omaha Skutt and Elkhorn South in a four-day span to win the B-3 subdistrict. The reward is being on the other side of the bracket from those two, the teams that have combined for the past three Class B state titles. Elkhorn South stays on top because of its regular-season résumé, but the margin among the top four teams is razor thin.

Class A: A change at the top — back to where it started in the preseason — after Omaha South had the stronger finish to the regular season and districts.

Omaha Westside handed the Packers their only loss — 1-0 in the Metro tournament final — in a match that will be highly scrutinized if the two should meet again. The only other change is Lincoln North Star and North Platte switching places after the former beat the latter in a district final, evening the season series.

Class B: Omaha Skutt and Gretna flip spots after the SkyHawks’ 1-0 win in the B-3 subdistrict final, avenging a loss to Gretna earlier in the year. Defending champion Elkhorn South saw the fruit of its regular-season labor, winning six of its last eight with the only losses to Omaha South and Omaha Creighton Prep, two of the top four teams in Class A. Omaha Gross and Crete move up after going on the road to win district finals against Lexington and Columbus, respectively.
