COMMENTS: All 10 teams remain from last week, but only two — top-ranked Omaha Marian and No. 5 Lincoln Southwest — remain in the same place. Millard North jumps to No. 2 based on three wins in ranked matchups. Three more — Thursday at Elkhorn South, Saturday hosting Papillion-La Vista and Tuesday at Marian — awaitover the next six days. That’s before the Metro Conference tournament, where seven of the top nine teams in Class A will be in action. And that doesn’t include Metro newcomer Elkhorn South. The Storm already own a win over Millard West and will meet Marian in the regular-season finale.

COMMENTS: The conventional wisdom has been that Class B’s champion will again come from one of the top three teams, which have accounted for the last nine titles. But challengers are aplenty. Both of Elkhorn’s losses were by a single goal to Elkhorn South and Gretna. And don’t forget about the bottom half of the ratings. Ratings newcomer Omaha Roncalli pushed two-time defending champion Omaha Skutt to overtime on Tuesday. Don’t expect much in the way of changes next week. No matchups between ranked Class B teams are scheduled for the next seven days.

COMMENTS: Make room near the top for Lincoln Southwest. The Silver Hawks elbowed their way up six spots and stated their case for title contention with a pair of wins over teams in the preseason top five — Lincoln North Star and Millard West — in the span of four days. They also handed a Millard North team new to the ratings a 3-0 loss. A trip to Kearney on Saturday and a Heartland Athletic Conference tournament field that includes three of the top seven teams are next up for Southwest. A Thursday slate featuring Grand Island at Omaha South and Millard West visiting Omaha Westside sets the tone for a two-week stretch full of intriguing matchups.

COMMENTS: Class B’s defending champs are back at the top as Elkhorn South, playing a primarily Class A schedule , has run its winning streak to 23 straight. Included in that is a shootout victory over Millard West on Monday. Home matches against Omaha North and Omaha Bryan precede the first Metro Conference soccer tournament in program history. The Storm replace South Sioux City at No. 1 as the Cardinals lost three of their first four to start the season — albeit to strong competition. South Sioux City doesn’t have a match against a ranked opponent until the third weekend in April. Elkhorn jumps into the ratings on the strength of a shootout win over Gretna, which slips one spot. Schuyler and newly ranked Norris join Elkhorn South as the last remaining unbeatens in Class B less than two weeks into the season.
