Nebraska High School Rodeo Wraps up Spring Season and Prepare for State Finals

It was a busy weekend for high school rodeo contestants as performances were held Friday (5/31), Saturday (6/1), and Sunday (6/2). Recapping some of the area highlights, at the “Panhandle” rodeo in Harrison on Friday, Cauy Pokorny of Stapleton was the steer wrestling champion in a winning time of 4.22 and Cooper Bass teamed with Zack Bradley (both of Brewster) to win the team roping in a time of 8.25 seconds. Frazier Kaelin of Ansley won the boys cutting with a score of 75 and Kaelin also placed first in the boys cutting on Saturday at the Harrison Rodeo with a score of 76.

Sunday’s rodeo performance was in Crawford, NE. Taci Flinn of Arcadia posted the winning time in the barrel racing event at 17.482 seconds. Frazier Kaelin of Ansley concluded a perfect weekend in the boys cutting by winning it for the third time with a score of 74 and Kesha DeGroff of Broken Bow was the girls cutting champion on Sunday with a score of 72. BJ McAbee of Ansley was the bull riding champion with a 76 point ride and Brody McAbee of Ansley was the Saddle Bronc champ with 71 point ride. Mullen cowgirl Brooke McCulley teamed with Shayda Vaughn of Hershey to win the team roping in a time of 7.68.

High School rodeo contestants will now prepare for the state finals which are scheduled for June 12-15 in Hastings.
