Mullen Wins MNAC Volleyball Tournament

The Mullen Lady Broncos claimed the title at the 2020 Mid Nebraska Activities Conference volleyball tournament on Saturday.

The atmosphere of the tournament was different with no fans in attendance due to COVID concerns but the competition was at a very high level as both semifinal matches went five sets.  The opening semifinal featured the top seed Mullen against the five seed Anselmo-Merna.  The two teams went back and forth with AM winning the first set 26-24, Mullen won the second 25-18, AM took the third 25-23, and Mullen came back to tie it winning in the fourth 25-15.  Mullen would then prevail in the fifth winning 15-9 to advance to the final.

The second semifinal featured the 2 seed South Loup against the 3 seed Twin Loup.  The two teams split the first four sets with South Loup winning sets one (25-18), and four (25-15).  Twin Loup won sets two (25-14) and three (26-24).  The fifth set went extra points with Twin Loup coming out on top 16-14.

In the title match, Mullen took control early winning the first set 25-17 but then Twin Loup took the momentum in set two winning 25-14.  Mullen won the third set 25-13 and then held off a late Twin Loup rally to prevail in the fourth set 25-22 and win the championship.

In the 3rd place consolation match, South Loup def. Anselmo-Merna 3-1 (25-15, 20-25, 25-20, 25-18)
