Mullen Preparing for State Tournament Run

The Mullen Lady Broncos will open play tomorrow at the NSAA girls basketball championships in Lincoln. Mullen will be making their 3rd appearance at the girls state tournament and will be looking for their first state tournament victory. The Lady Broncos made their first trip to the tournament in 2008 and their most recent appearance came in 2015 when they lost to Stuart in the opening round. Mullen is 21-3 this season and advanced to the state tournament by defeating Maywood Hayes Center 44-39 in the D2-6 district final. The Lady Broncos have been led in scoring this season by Samantha Moore who is averaging a team high 15.9 points per game entering the tournament. Mullen is the #6 seed and will play #4 seed BDS (Bruning Davenport Shickley) Thursday night at 8:45 at Lincoln North Star high school. BDS is 21-4 this season and finished as last year’s Class D1 state runner-up losing to North Central in the championship game.

The other opening round Class D2 matchups include : Sterling (#5) vs Chambers Wheeler Central (#4) ; Falls City Sacred Heart (#1) vs Ewing (#8) ; Humphrey St. Francis (#2) vs Wynot (#7)
