The Mullen Broncos are headed to Lincoln to play for the Class D2 state championship. Mullen defeated Lawrence-Nelson 36-24 Monday in the state semifinals. The Broncos scored only 6 points in the first half and trailed 24-6 at halftime. The second half was a completely different story. The Mullen defense held Lawrence-Nelson scoreless in the second half as the Broncos offense finally got rolling and scored 30 unanswered points in quarters 3 and 4 to complete the comeback victory. Mullen is now 12-0 on the season and return to the state championship game for the first time since 2004. Their opponent will be Johnson Brock who defeated Humphrey St. Francis 58-44. The D2 championship game will be played Monday, November 19th at 10:15 AM at Lincoln’s Memorial Stadium.

The Burwell Longhorns will make their 3rd trip to Lincoln in the last 4 years. After state championship appearances in 2015 and 2016, the Longhorns are back in the state final after a thrilling 1 point victory over North Central on Monday night in the state semifinals.
