The Mid Nebraska Activities Conference basketball tournament played its semifinals on Thursday. South Loup and Mullen advanced to the girls championship game. South Loup edged Anselmo-Merna in the first girls semifinal 46-42. South Loup was led by Ava Pandorf who scored a team high 15 points. Kaitlyn Jacquot scored 15 to lead the Coyotes. South Loup is now 15-2 and will play Mullen in the championship game. The top seeded Lady Broncos advanced past Sandhills/Thedford 65-34 to improve to 16-2 on the season. Mullen was led in scoring by Samantha Moore who finished with 18 points. Tenley Rasmussen scored 18 to lead the Lady Knights.
The top two seeds advanced in the boys bracket but it wasn’t easy for either. #2 seed Sandhills Valley held off Anselmo-Merna 53-47. The Mavericks got a big game from Cole Kramer who led all scorers with 21 and Ethan Nicholson had 18 for Sandhills Valley. Anselmo-Merna was led by Garrett Porter who had a team high 17. Meeting Sandhills Valley in the boys final will be top seed Mullen. The Broncos survived a tough defensive battle with Sandhills/Thedford winning 45-38. Mullen had three players finish in double figures led by Trevor Kuncl with 15. Sandhills/Thedford was led by Dane Pokorny who had a team high 11. Mullen is now 14-2 on the season while Sandhills Valley improves to 14-3.
The championship and 3rd place consolation games will take place Saturday back at North Platte Community College. The day will begin with the girls consolation between Anselmo-Merna and Sandhills/Thedford at 2:30 followed Anselmo-Merna vs Sandhills/Thedford in the boys consolation. The girls championship is scheduled for 5:30 and will feature South Loup against Mullen followed by the boys championship between Sandhills Valley and Mullen. All games Saturday will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com.
