McCook Defeats Cozad for Class B6 Senior Legion Tournament Title / Class B and Class C State Junior Tournaments Continue

McCook and Cozad battled one another Tuesday night for the right to advance to the Class B state senior legion tournament. Entering the night McCook was still undefeated while Cozad had one loss meaning McCook had to win one game to clinch the area title while Cozad would have to win twice. In game one, Cozad came back to win a thriller 3-2. Nolan Wetovick had 2 RBI for the Cozad Reds and scored the winning run in the bottom of the 7th to force a second and decisive game between the two. In the winner take all championship game, McCook’s James Mockry pitched 6 1/3 innings and struck out nine as McCook won the championship game 10-4. The McCook Seniors now advance to the state tournament in Gering.

At the Class American Legion Class B Junior State Tournament in McCook, the championship matchup is set. Hickman remained undefeated in the tournament as they eliminated Waverly Tuesday winning 14-1. Hickman will play Central City for the championship. Central City advanced to the title game by defeating and eliminating Beatrice Tuesday 6-2. Hickman needs one win to claim the state title while Central City would have to defeat Hickman twice today in order to win the championship.

The Class C Junior State Tournament continued in Plymouth, NE. Palmer Wolbach Greeley remained undefeated in the tournament and assured themselves a spot in the championship with an 8-0 win over Syracuse Tuesday. In other action, Tekamah Herman eliminated Pierce 8-0 and Louisville Weeping Water eliminated Shelton-Gibbon 6-0. Today (7/24) PWG will play Tekamah Herman and Syracuse will Louisville Weeping Water in an elimination game.
