High School Football Recap – Bow Wins Home Opener Against Minden

The Broken Bow Indians entered the winning column on Friday night as they defeated Minden in their home opener at Mark Russell Field. The Indians came out strong in the first half scoring on their opening drive as Blake Denson hooked up with Mykael Stoddard for a 13 yard touchdown pass to go up 6-0. Then right before the half, Denson would connect with Skeeter Campbell on a 37 yard touchdown pass to make the score Broken Bow 12 Minden 0 at the half. In the second half, Minden would respond scoring on their opening drive of the half as Eddie Gonzalez scored on a 5 yard touchdown run to make the score 12-7. Minden would take the lead when Braden Bates connected with Kayden Land on a 13 yard touchdown pass to make the score 14-12. After recovering a Broken Bow fumble, Minden was poised to add to their lead but after facing 1st down and goal from inside the ten, the Indians defense held on fourth and goal and would take the ball over at their own 4 yard line. Aided by a pass interference call that helped keep the drive alive, Broken Bow would proceed to march 96 yards as Blake Denson scored on a 37 yard touchdown run to give Broken Bow the lead 18-14 with under 5 minutes remaining in the game. Broken Bow would then put the game away when Skeeter Campbell picked off a deflected pass and returned it for a touchdown to make the final score 24-14 in favor of the Indians. Next up for Bow will be a trip to Ogallala next Friday.
