The Broken Bow Indians fell in their season opener to Ogallala Friday night 28-20. Bow showed great resiliency all night as they constantly fought from behind but in the end would come up just short in Carlie Wells first game as head coach. Broken Bow had the first scoring chance midway through the first half as they drove to inside the Ogallala ten yard line. It appeared that Broken Bow had scored first but a penalty took away a Blake Denson touchdown run and the Ogallala defense would be able to hold Broken Bow to no points on the possession. The game remained scoreless until Ogallala’s Corbin Murphy connected with Brandon Beamon on a touchdown pass to put Ogallala up 7-0 with 1:46 to go in the second quarter. Ogallala would have another scoring chance before the half following a Broken Bow fumble but the Bow defense held and Ogallala missed a 22 yard field goal attempt as the score remained 7-0 at the half. Ogallala would start the second half strong scoring on their opening possession on a Cameron Zinc touchdown run. Broken Bow would respond though scoring at the 1:20 mark in the third quarter as Blake Denson punched it in from one yard out on 4th down and goal to make the score 14-6. The momentum was short lived though as Brandon Beamon returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown to put Ogallala up 21-6. Again Broken Bow found a way to respond as Blake Denson connected with Kaden McKean for a 46 yard touchdown pass to make the score 21-14 following the two point conversion. With under 5 minutes remaining Ogallala special teams came up with another big play as they blocked a Broken Bow punt and on the next play scored on a 15 yard touchdown pass from Corbin Murphy to Race McClure to make the score 28-14. But the theme of the night was Broken Bow fighting back and not giving up. Bow would drive the field and Frazier Kaelin would score on a touchdown run to bring Bow to within 28-20 with less than 2 minutes to play. Bow would try an onside kick but Ogallala recovered and would hold on for the win. Bow now prepares for their home opener next Friday against St. Paul.
