The Anselmo-Merna football team will look to improve on a season that saw them finish 3-5 a season ago. The Coyotes will compete in the D2-7 district where they will be joined by Overton, Bertrand, Pleasanton, Loomis, and Elwood. Out of district games will include a home game with Twin Loup to start the season as well road games against Mullen and Sandhills/Thedford. Head coach Matt McGinn told KCNI/KBBN sports that the leadership of seniors Jace Leibhart, Seth Miller, Rhett Safranek, and Destry Miller has really stood out through the first week of practice. The Coyotes were just percentage points from qualifying for the Class D2 state playoffs last season and coach McGinn says that has served as motivation, especially for his senior group, entering this season.
McGinn has been the AM head coach for nearly a decade now. He commented on some changes in the game he has seen through the years. According to McGinn, the increased awareness of concussions and other things has helped create a change in which practices are conducted which he believes has been beneficial.
The Anselmo-Merna Coyotes will be featured on KBBN 95.3 FM August 29th when they host Twin Loup for their season opener also September 6th when they travel to Mullen and October 25th when they end the regular season at home against Loomis
