District Wrestling Preview

Area wrestlers will attempt to book a spot at the 2021 state wrestling championships on Saturday when they compete at districts.  The top four in each weight class from each district will qualify for the state tournament.  The layout for state qualifying has been a bit different this year as wrestlers had to qualify for districts this year through a sub district tournament held last week. Broken Bow will be among the teams competing at the B4 district tournament in Gering on Saturday.  The Indians qualified 14 wrestlers for the district tournament and will be represented in each weight class.  Central Nebraska’s Sports Source asked Broken Bow wrestling coach Ed Schaaf what the focus of the team is heading into districts.

 

Joining Broken Bow in the B4 district meet will be Lexington, Cozad, Gothenburg, Alliance, Gering, Holdrege, McCook, Ogallala, Scottsbluff, and Sidney.  Saturday’s matches are scheduled to begin at 10 am (mountain)  11 am (central).  Live coverage of matches from the B4 district meet can be heard on KBBN 95.3 FM and kbbn.com

Arcadia/Loup City qualified six wrestlers for the C4 district tournament which will take place at Valentine.  ALC will be joined in the district by Ainsworth, Amherst, Bridgeport, Centura, Chase County, Gibbon, Gordon-Rushville, Hershey, Kearney Catholic, Loomis/Bertrand, Mitchell, O’Neill, Ord, Ravenna, and Valentine

Anselmo-Merna and South Loup will compete at the D1 district tournament at Weeping Water.  AM qualified 7 for the tournament and South Loup qualified 5.  Other teams competing in the D1 district are Alma, Arapahoe, Cedar Bluffs, Clarkson-Leigh, Dorchester, Elm Creek, Franklin, Friend, Fullerton, Guardian Angels Central Catholic, High Plains Community, Kenesaw, North Central, Pender, Plainview, Scribner-Snyder, Shelby-Rising City, Weeping Water, Wilcox-Hildreth.

Ansley/Litchfield, Burwell, and Twin Loup will all compete at the D2 district at Elkhorn Valley.  All three will be well represented as Burwell and Twin Loup each qualified 10 for the tournament and Ansley/Litchfield qualified 9.  Other teams competing in the D2 district are Brady, Doniphan-Trumbull, Elgin Public/Pope John, Elkhorn Valley, Freeman, Meridian, Niobrara/Verdigre, Osmond, Palmer, Pleasanton, Red Cloud/Blue Hill, Riverside, Santee, Shelton, Southwest, St. Mary’s, Superior, West Holt.

Sandhills/Thedford, Sandhills Valley, and SEM will be at the D3 district tournament at Central Valley on Saturday.  Sandhills/Thedford qualified 4 wrestlers for the district meet, Sandhills Valley one, and SEM six.  Other teams at the D3 district will include Axtell, Cambridge, Central Valley, Creighton, East Butler, Harvard, Hastings St. Cecilia, Hi-Line, Howells-Dodge, Johnson County Central, Neligh-Oakdale, Overton, Southern, Southern Valley, Stanton, Summerland, Thayer Central, and Winside

Mullen qualified nine for the D4 district wrestling tournament at Sutherland.  Joining the Broncos will be Banner County, Bayard, Crawford, Dundy County Stratton, Garden County, Hay Springs, Hemingford, Hitchcock County, Hyannis, Kimball, Leyton, Maxwell, Medicine Valley, Minatare, Morrill, North Platte St. Pat’s, Paxton, Perkins County, Sioux County, Sutherland, Wauneta-Palisade
