Broken Bow Drops Opener to Cozad in First Round of Area Tournament

The Cozad Reds defeated Broken Bow Thursday afternoon 8-3 in round one of the Class B Area 6 American Legion Seniors baseball tournament in Holdrege. After a scoreless first inning, Cozad scored 2 runs in the 2nd inning, 2 runs in the third, 3 more in the fourth and one in the fifth to build an 8-0 lead. Broken Bow was held to just 2 hits through the first 6 innings but was able to produce some offense in the seventh. Bow scored 3 runs on three hits in the seventh highlighted by a 2 out 2 rbi double by catcher Hunter Schnase. With the win, Cozad advances to play the top seed Gothenburg Friday. Broken Bow drops down into the elimination bracket and will play again Saturday. The opponent and time of game is yet to be determined. In other tournament action from Thursday, McCook def. Doniphan Trumbull and Kearney County (Minden) def. Holdrege 9-8.
