Bellevue baseball stays alive in NAIA World Series; Northeast CC drops slugfest

LEWISTON, Idaho — Bellevue University knocked off host Lewis-Clark State 4-2 at the NAIA World Series Monday for its second straight elimination-game win.

Colton Walker (7-2) threw a six-hitter with seven strikouts. Travis Tanaka drove in three runs with a pair of singles as the Bruins scored twice in the fifth and ninth innings.

Bellevue continues play at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Northeast drops slugfest

ENID, Okla. — Northeast Community College dropped its first game at the NJCAA Division II World Series. Though it outhit second-seeded Madison (Wis.) 15-14, 11 walks contributed to the Hawks’ 21-14 win.

Madison led 18-4 after four innings before Northeast scored 10 in the fifth but was shut out the rest of the way.

Elkhorn graduate Drew Smith drove in seven runs in the fifth inning with a three-run home run and a grand slam. Smith finished 4 for 5 with nine RBIs while Bellevue West graduate Christian Dumont had three hits and scored four runs.

Northwest will play an elimination game at 11 a.m. Tuesday against Lincoln Land.
