Aurora and Centennial Claim State Football Titles

Centennial won their first ever state football championship Tuesday (11/20) by defeating long time power Norfolk Catholic in overtime in the Class C2 title game. The game was tied 21-21 after regulation. Norfolk Catholic had the first possession in overtime and scored on its second play of the overtime period as Dylan Kautz scored on a 1 yard touchdown run to make the score 28-21. Centennial was faced with a 4th down and goal from the 2 yard line on its overtime possession as quarterback Wyatt Ehlers connected with Jackson Hirschfeld on a touchdown pass to make the score 28-27. The Broncos chose to go for the two point conversion and the win. Again, it was Ehlers connecting with Hirschfeld on the 2 point try as Centennial claimed a 29-28 victory.

The Ord Chanticleers played in its first ever state championship game Tuesday against undefeated Aurora for the C1 title. The Chants battled tough against the mighty Huskies and trailed 14-7 after the first quarter but Aurora ran off 21 unanswered points in the 2nd quarter to extend their lead to 35-7 at the half. Aurora would go on to win by the final of 49-7. Ord finishes the season at 11-2.
