Area Athletes Shine at Best in the Midwest

Sutherland hosted the annual “Best in the Midwest” track and field championships Tuesday. Here are some of the area highlights. Jadeyn Bubak of South Loup took double gold in the girls 100 and 200. The freshman won the 100 in a time of 12.71 and the 200 in 26.22. Emery Swan of Brady won the girls 800 in a time of 2:25.33. Samantha Moore of Mullen was the champion of the girls 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.2. In the girls relays, Cozad won the 4×100 (51.31) and Gothenburg won the 4×800 (9:51.47). In the field events, Kennedy Berreckman of Cozad won the girls high jump by clearing 5’1″.

Area highlights on the boys side included Luke Christen of Mullen edging Kalen Dockweiler of South Loup in the boys 800. Christen posted the winning time at 2:02.44 with Dockweiler right behind at 2:02.66. In the field events, Lane Edis of Mullen won the long jump at 21’2″ and Tyce Hruza of Gothenburg won the boys pole vault by clearing 15’6″. The South Loup team of Landon Furne, Cooper Taylor, Blake Brown and Kalen Dockweiler posted the winning time in the boys 4×800 meter relay at 8:26.28.
