Area Athletes Named to Huskerland Prep Report All State Basketball Teams

The Huskerland Prep Report, published by Bob Jensen, has been announcing its all state basketball teams for the just completed 2020-21 season.  A few from the KCNI/KBBN coverage area were honored by the publication.

Samantha Moore of Mullen was a girls Class D2 first team selection.  Moore put together a fabulous senior season in helping the Lady Broncos to a third place finish at the girls state tournament and an overall record of 26-3.  Moore averaged 17 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.4 assists this season for Mullen.  Moore has signed her letter of intent to play college basketball for the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

Kya Scott of Broken Bow was a girls Class C1 second team selection.  Scott, a junior, led Broken Bow in scoring this season averaging 13 points per game.  The Lady Indians finished the season at 23-2 which included their fourth consecutive SWC girls tournament title, the C1-5 district title, and a trip to the girls state basketball tournament.  Scott also set the school record this season for most 3’s in a career with 158.

Brendon Walker of Mullen was a boys Class D2 second team selection.  Walker helped lead Mullen to back to back appearances at the boys state basketball tournament.  Walker averaged just over 12 points per game for the Broncos this season and led the team in assists and steals.  Mullen finished the season at 23-4 and was ranked #2 in the final Class D2 boys basketball rankings by the Omaha World Herald.

Barak Birch of Burwell was a boys Class D1 second team selection.  Birch was a major contributor in helping Burwell go through the regular season undefeated as they qualified for the boys state basketball tournament and ended the season at 25-2 overall.  Birch averaged over 15 points and 5 rebounds per game.
