West Nile Found in Holt County

O'NEILL - Residents in north central Nebraska are being told to watch for West Nile virus. The North Central District Health Department in O'Neill says a mosquito trapped in Holt County has tested positive for the virus. Health officials say while it's late in the season, it's still necessary to take proper precautions against mosquito bites, which is how the virus is spread to humans. West Nile generally carries flu-like symptoms, and can be especially harmful to children or the elderly. The mosquito found in Holt County is the 69th found in Nebraska this year. State health officials have confirmed 30 human cases of the virus in 2017.
