Virutal Walk for Life through May 3

CALLAWAY–Callaway is one of eight locations participating in this year’s Walk for Life as a way to raise funds and awareness for the Women’s Resource Center (WRC) in North Platte. This year’s walk has been held virtually for the past several weeks and participants are encouraged to walk and gather sponsor pledges by this Sunday, May 3.

Executive Director at the Women’s Resource Center in North Platte Linda Logsdon told KCNI/KBBN this year’s fundraising goal is $50,000, with about 35% raised so far.

The Women’s Resource Center aims to protect the lives of the unborn and promotes life with hope, help, and healing. The WRC website states there are more than 2,100 abortions in Nebraska each year and the public’s help is vital to reaching and saving lives.

Linda Logsdon told KCNI/KBBN the Women’s Resource Center has been providing support and services for more than 45 years. The pregnancy help center provides information and services for unplanned pregnancies, parenting and life skills classes, supplies such as diapers, formula, baby items, and maternity clothes.

“We are wanting them [clients] to choose life but we also want to share with them about what they would expect and want them to know that we provide a time of healing and providing hope. We do free pregnancy tests, we do free ultrasounds, we have a doctor that comes a couple of times a month to meet with our clients and we just really try to provide as much pregnancy help as we can,” Logsdon said.

The Walk for Life serves to inform the public about the services of the WRC and to raise money as one of the center’s major annual fundraisers. Logsdon said Callaway has been a walk location for several years thanks to Mary Ridder and her passion for getting involved. This year’s Callaway Coordinator is Crystal Anderson who can be reached at 308-870-4336.

“This year we can’t gather as groups in the different locations and walk together so we are considering it a virtual walk,” Logsdon said.

To participate:

*Every walker needs to raise “sponsor pledges”
*Each walker walks on their own at least 2 miles at any time or place
*Walkers do not have to collect money. Simply collect your sponsor’s name, address, and phone number in addition to their pledge amount. (WRC will send out invoices from the office to those that have pledged to give.)
*Every walker that raises at least $50 in sponsor pledges will receive a free Walk for Life t-shirt
*There are a big variety of prizes for the top 11 Adult walkers, top three students, and top 3 teams. Teams should be made up of 4 people. (Each individual will count as a separate walker and then the team prize goes to the combined members totals)
