UPDATE: Two In Custody After Fremont High School Lockdown

FREMONT, NE – Police swarmed Fremont High School shortly after classes were done for the day after someone spotted a boy and his friend with a gun.

For the next two hours, students still there were locked down.  16-year-old Sara Prall quietly texted her dad.

“He just told me to stay calm, that he love me, that everything would be OK,” Prall said.  “I had people saying that… that there were people with a gun, there were people with a knife.  So it was scary.”

According to police during the two-hour lockdown, two boys were spotted blocks away matching the descriptions they were looking for.  The boys were taken into custody – carrying a BB gun.

“A likeness of a live handgun.  When the juvenile was seen on the grounds of the school, the school automatically went into a lockdown,” Fremont Police Lieutenant Shane Wimer said.  “There were several people still in the school at the time.  Law enforcement was called and we went in to do searches of the building to make sure everyone was safe and that there were no other accomplices.”

Wimer says the suspects did not resist when contacted by police.

Along with the high school, a nearby YMCA and university were also locked down.  As one officer put it, it was a rough night for folks in Fremont.
