Two Men Plead Guilty in District Court

Two Men Plead Guilty in District Court
Custer County Judicial Center (Broken Bow)

On Thursday, Cleveland D. Sledge, 51 of Broken Bow, appeared in District Court for arraignment for a Class IV felony: possession of a financial transaction device in June of this year. The state read that Sledge had stolen bank cards and credit cards and used them out of town. Sledge pled guilty and Judge Karin Noakes found him guilty and ordered a Pre-Sentence Investigation report. Attorney Mike Borders asked for a bond review and requested a PR bond because Sledge has been cooperative throughout the process. Borders also said that Sledge is the sole provider for children and step children after the death of his wife. The state argued that Sledge has had previous issues in another state but Judge Noakes did reduce the bond to $25,000 with a 10% privilege.

Also pleading guilty-in three cases-was Randy Judd, 18 of Broken Bow. He appeared for arraignments and was found guilty in all three cases; A Class IIA felony burglary of KO’s Bar in Ansley and two Class IV felonies of theft by taking of two separate vehicles, one of which was later found in New Mexico. Judd was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $1,534 to KO’s bar and more than $3,000 to Stryker Tractor Service. Judd has been accepted into a Problem-Solving Court Program.

Jesse L. Hare, 35 of Merriman pled no contest and was found guilty of driving under the influence fourth offense, a Class IIIA felony. Hare could face a minimum 180 days in jail and a maximum three years in jail or $10,000 fine or both, plus post-release supervision. Judge Noakes ordered a Pre-Sentience Investigation and scheduled sentencing for September 7 at 9:45am.

The last criminal case of the morning was that of Jeffrey Scott, age 50 of Anselmo, who allegedly issued a bad check (a Class IV felony) in June of 2013. A hearing was held for alleged violation of probation including failure to report to probation officer, not paying programming fees, and leaving the state. Scott said he went to Florida after gaining permission but did not have sufficient funds to return home. Judge Noakes appointed an attorney and another hearing is set for August 3 at 10am.
