TALMAGE – A grenade discovered in a dumpster at a home in Talmage was safely disposed of by the Nebraska State Patrol Bomb Squad on Monday.

According to officials, the grenade was found while the home was being cleaned out after the resident had passed away.

Hazardous Device Technicians safely removed the grenade from the area and destroyed it with a counter charge.

“If you ever find a grenade or other explosive device, call the authorities immediately and do not attempt to move it,” Commander of the State Patrol Bomb Squad Lt. Dain Hicks said. “These devices can be extremely dangerous and must be handled by trained experts.”

The Otoe County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with the scene.
