Semi Driver Identified from Fatal Dry Creek Accident

COLFAX COUNTY - Colfax County authorities have identified the driver of a semi, who died after an accident in Dry Creek north of Schuyler. Colfax County Attorney Denise Kracl says a Semi with a trailer was traveling northbound on Highway 15 behind a tractor, when the tractor began to slow down to make a turn. The semi driver, Henry Sands, 53, of Thurston, then attempted to pass the tractor to the west, and at the same time the tractor began making a turn to the west, says Kracl. The semi then left the roadway to the west, drove down a slope and crashed into Dry Creek, slamming into the north side embankment, says Kracl. Dry Creek is located just north of County Road L. The accident occurred at approximately 1:58 pm and roughly an hour later, Sands, was pronounced dead, says Kracl. The accident is still under investigation and an autopsy will be completed in Douglas County says Kracl. Sands was not believed to have been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The Colfax County Sheriff’s Office, Schuyler Fire and Rescue, Kracl Towing, and Mike’s Towing responded to the scene.
