Scrutiny of State’s Troubled Prisons Likely to Increase

Lincoln, NE.—Nebraska’s troubled prison system is likely to find itself even further under the microscope.

Nebraska lawmakers today unanimously voted to put State Sen. Steve Lathrop—a long-time critic of the Rickett’s Administration’s handling of the prisons— in charge of the Judiciary Committee, which has oversight of the Corrections Department.

Lathrop survived a nasty 2018 campaign, sending him back to the Legislature where he served eight years before he was term limited in 2014.
