Sapp Bros. Opens New Biodiesel Fuel Center

NORFOLK - Northeast Nebraska’s biodiesel footprint is getting larger. Sapp Bros. held an open house Wednesday to celebrate the activation of their new 30,000-gallon biodiesel tank located along Highway 81 just north of Norfolk. Company officials say the tank will be filled with B100 fuel made predominantly with soybean stock. Sapp Bros. Petroleum president Andy Richard said the tank makes sense for northeast Nebraska. "We produce a lot of soybeans and that’s the predominant stock that makes this product,” Richard said. “So we’re producing what we’re consuming.” That’s music to the ears of area soybean farmers, who have been touting the benefits of biodiesel fuels for a while. “The bottom line is we need to move soybean oil and we need to move our product,” said Ed Lammers of the U.S. Soybean Board. “The more product we can move, the more economically and environmentally friendly it is.” Sapp Bros. says their location north of Norfolk works not just for its proximity to farmers, but also to the many fuel suppliers in the Norfolk area, which they say will make the B100 mix more readily available to more people.
