Red Cross Looking For Extra Donations This Month

CUSTER COUNTY—
September is Child Cancer Awareness Month and the American Red Cross is encouraging eligible donors to give blood to support kids, teens, and young adults battling cancer, as well as others in need of transfusions. According to the National Cancer Institute, more than 15,000 children and adolescents in the U.S. are diagnosed with cancer each year. Childhood cancer patients may need blood products on a regular basis during chemotherapy, surgery, or treatment complications

The blood and platelet transfusions that are administered to these kids, helps restore the strength that these kids lose in their fight against cancer. The American Red Cross is looking for all blood types, especially type O negative and O positive.

As a thank-you to those who donate blood or platelets from August 31 to Sept 4, the donor will receive an aluminum water bottle, while supplies last. If you would like to make an appointment to donate, you can download the free American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org, or call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
