Prosecutors say bad break-up fueled plan for alleged attack

A judge has ordered mental evaluations and trackers for two teenaged suspects accused of plotting an attack at Plattsmouth High School. That order came during a juvenile court hearing in Sarpy County Friday as we discovered additional details about the incident that led to the cancellation of all classes Wednesday. The teens, 14 and 15 year-old boys, are both charged with making terroristic threats. During Friday’s hearing we learned that they discussed their plans with fellow students at a party and one of the teens is also accused of discussing the plan with his friends in the high school weight room. Step one of the alleged plot: use an air-horn to draw their classmates outside of Plattsmouth High and then, investigators tell 6 News, the boys intended to “shoot-up the school.” They allegedly had a specific weapon in mind. Investigators say the gun was a high-powered precision rifle with a silencer, allegedly belonging to the father of one of the teens. The rifle was locked in a safe that could only be accessed with a specific thumb print. Investigators tell 6 News the teens were trying to figure out a way to get into the safe and access the gun. According to prosecutors, a bad break-up was the motive. One of the teens allegedly said he would save his ex-girlfriend for last, pulling her braces off with plyers before killing her. The attorneys for both of the teens said the boys weren't serious. The judge ordered mental evaluations and trackers before both are to be returned to their parents by noon Saturday. Law enforcement will do a sweep of each boy’s house to make sure no firearms are present. They'll be back in court for arraignment next month.
