Police: Norfolk Man Assaults Restaurant Worker With Baseball Bat

NORFOLK — A Norfolk man is behind bars after police say he assaulted a man with a baseball bat on Saturday. According to a news release from Norfolk Police Captain Michael Bauer, officers responded to a reported assault at the 13th Street Burger King at 1:44 AM on Saturday morning. Bauer says the 20-year-old male victim told officers he was taking out the trash when a man in a sweatshirt and white handkerchief jumped out and started hitting him with a baseball bat. The victim alleged he was struck 10 times before the assailant ran east on Pasewalk Avenue. Police located 25-year-old Roger Pojar of Norfolk in the area. He was wearing clothes matching the description, had a white handkerchief in his pocket and was out of breath from running. Officers found the weapon in the 1100 block of Pasewalk. Bauer says officers learned the victim knew Pojar and that the pair had been involved in assaults in the past. Pojar was arrested for second-degree assault and is being housed in the Madison County jail. The victim was transported by Norfolk Rescue to Faith Regional Health Services with nonlife-threatening injuries.
